The Shenyang J-11 Fighter

military tech jobs

The Swedish Air Force needed more air defense during World War II. They purchased Italian fighters, such as the Fiat C.R.42. This aircraft was later renamed to the J-11. The aircraft was mostly used as a fighter but it was also possible for it to be used as either a scout/recon or reconnaissance vehicle.

Shenyang Aircraft Corporation was responsible for the development of the Shenyang J-11. It was contracted to produce jet fighters at China's frontier. The Sukhoi Su-27 Su-27 fighter air superiority fighter from Soviet Union was used as the airframe. China developed the J-11 as a version of the Su-27SK under license. The contract was terminated and the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation started making the J-11s.

The J-11 includes a glass cockpit with a digital control system, a colour multifunctional display, a color multifunctional display, a heads-up display, emergency situations warning equipment, and a headup display. It also includes an autonomous multifunctional pulse Doppler radar and an attitude and heading reference system. Two 12.7 mm Akan machine guns (m/40) are provided. It has a flight information recording system (FIRS) and an attitude and heading reference system (AGRS). It can be used by one pilot.

The J-11 has a very high top speed. It can also climb very high, making it very difficult to compete with other biplanes. You can equip it with advanced air-to–air missiles like PL-10. The J-11 has a TS101M chip, which can track up to 10 targets simultaneously. It features an IFF system interrogator and a helmet mounted sight.

The J-11 is operated by the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). The J-11B upgraded version of J-11B comes equipped with a Chinese made WS-10A "Taihang” turbofan. This version of the aircraft has a higher battle rating of 1.7 (AB). The J-11B was also used to test the WS-10. CCTV-7, a state TV station, aired footages of J-11B between 2007 and 2008.

The J-11B marks the first J-11 aircraft to be equipped using Chinese hardware. Chinese web sources claim that electronics such as radar and the avionics of the aircraft are Chinese. There are also reports that the aircraft's engines are domestically manufactured. China has not yet integrated an AESA radio into the J-11.

The J-11 features a very powerful landing brake which can be softened to prevent crashes. It is also made of heavy steel, so it can go at high speeds. The J11's nose can overshoot due to its heavy engine. The J-11 is capable of outrunning most biplanes at its rank.

The Chinese air force has been looking for a suitable successor to the fourth-generation fighters that it is currently using. The J-20 was an option but it is unpredictable and costly. The J-11D is expected be an extension of the J-20 for decades. It is expected to integrate a miniaturized active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. The wings and tail will also be made of composite materials. Radar absorbent coatings will also be available for the J-11D.
