Six Barracuda class submarines are currently in possession of the French Navy. Two types of submarines can be built. These submarines come in two types: conventionally and nuclear powered. The nuclear submarines are able to remain in the sea for several months without having to return to the surface. The submarines can be recharged and can remain at sea for years.
Barracuda submarines are the first nuclear submarines to be manufactured in France. They are designed for the primary missions in intelligence, antisubmarine warfare and surface warfare. Submarines are made of steel that can withstand pressures up 200 metres. They can be refueled with diesel instead of etanol. Submarines are designed to be at sea for at least 220 days each year. You can outfit the submarines with a dry dock shelter, torpedolaunchers and a platform that allows for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles.
The submarines have a TechnicAtome K15150MW reactor. This reactor allows for the submarine to run at a low power level for many days straight in near absolute quiet. This reactor can also be modified so that it lasts longer than the reactors on the Rubis class submarines. You can outfit the submarines as Swimmer Delivery Vehicles, (PSM3G). The PSM3G 26-meter electric vehicle can be used to transport SEALs.
The submarines are also equipped with a special operations shelter (DDS). The DDS is intended to fulfill basic command needs. The DDS measures approximately 40 tonnes in weight.
The first of six Barracuda-class submarines has been ordered by the French Navy, the S620 Suffren. The submarine is being made at Cherburgo's Naval Group facility. The French Navy will commission the SNA Perle, a second submarine, in 2022. This submarine is expected replace the Rubis class submarines. In March 2022, the first SNA Perle submarine will be delivered.
The French Navy will continue to have five Rubis submarines operating from the Tolon submarine base. These submarines can be found in the south asiatic. It will also include the entire Mediterranean. France will also see the construction of a new nuclear-attack submarine. This will provide the fleet with an under-ice capability.
The Barracuda class submarine is the most powerful submarine in the world. It is also the most expensive. The submarine is capable of carrying MdCN missiles, which can bloqueate time. The French Navy is planning to construct a second nuclear submarine, the Duguay-Trouin. The Duguay-Trouin submarine will be added at Cherburgo in 2022.
