
Point Mugu Sea Range in Southern California is the Navy’s center for electronic warfare expertise. San Nicolas Island sits on 36,000 acres of instrumented maritime and air space. It allows the Navy to test and evaluate guided missiles, weapons-of-prey, and electronic warfare technology.
NAWCWD Point Mugu and China Lake
The Point Mugu Sea Range is managed by the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division. It is also the Department of the Navy’s center of electronic warfare expertise. It offers logistical support and in-service support to guided missiles, free fall weapons, targets, support equipment and electronic warfare technology.
NAWCWD oversees over 1.1 million acres and multiple weapons-development laboratories at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. This is 150 miles north Los Angeles. It also maintains a 36,000 mile sea test area at Point Mugu. A large test range on California's West Coast at San Nicolas Island is also located off the coast.
NAS Point Mugu and nearby Naval Construction Battalion Center Port Hueneme became Naval Base Ventura County in 2000. The installation houses the Pacific Seabees, West Coast E-2D Hawkeyes, and three warfare centers. It also has 80 tenants.

While entertainment at a pt Mugu Air Show is often free, you might want to bring your own food or beverages. You can find food trucks and other eateries throughout the base. There are many local wine bars and beer shops that are open until late at night.

Whether you are attending a pt mugu air show or simply visiting the base, make sure to bring a water bottle and plenty of sunscreen. You will spend a lot in the sunshine so be sure to protect yourself!
Make sure to bring your binoculars so you can see the Air Show aerial performers from afar. Your binoculars are also useful for observing the coastline and hiking trails around the base.
