
A master's program in history military focuses specifically on the historical study a specific area. A student's dissertation is either a paper or thesis, depending on the area of research. Students take Introduction to Research in Military History in their first year. This course combines reading of classic texts about military history with discussion of research strategies. The first semester focuses on researching and writing a paper which will eventually become a master's dissertation or thesis. In the fall semester, students revise and complete their MA thesis or dissertation.
U.S. Army Nurse Corps Women
Congress established the Army Nurse Corps, the first civilian career field for women within the United States military. The Army General Hospital at the Presidio, San Francisco had 41 nurses by 1902. The hospital's chief nurse, Dora E. Thompson, led the nursing staff during the 1906 earthquake and fire.

Firsts for women in the U.S. military
