Scott Joplin
Scott Joplin is perhaps best known for his piano-rag "Maple Leaf Rag." The rag was printed at Sedalia, Missouri in St. Louis. It went on to be the first piano paper rag that sold a million copies. The exact timing of this success is unknown, but it was a significant moment in the composer's musical career. The cover featured many famous vaudeville artists dancing and was based on an advertisement for tobacco. In the early 1900s the cover was replaced with the familiar Maple Leaf. Joplin was featured on the rag's lower right-hand page.

Chuck Berry
Chuck Berry is a beloved singer and songwriter. His songs combine narrative country, folk tradition and jump jazz. He was a Billboard chart-topper in the 1950s, and reached the cover of "Biggest Show of Stars” in 1957.
Miles Davis
Miles Davis at Indeed St Louis is a memoir that explores the life and work of the great jazz trumpeter. Although there are not many insights into Davis' musical mind, the book is full of stories and anecdotes regarding other musicians. For example, the trumpeter recounts the harrowing story of the brilliant pianist Bud Powell, who was afflicted with schizophrenia. It also tells of Davis's heroin addiction in the early 1950s and his five-year seclusion.
Scott Joplin's ragtime
The origin and promotion of ragtime music are closely associated with the name Scott Joplin. In 1976, Scott Joplin's home was designated as a National Historic Landmark. It was then given to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. This is the first state historical site to be dedicated exclusively to African American heritage. The ragtime museum is full of exhibits that show the history of the area and its surrounding neighborhood. Visitors can hear ragtime piano roll on a working piano. The home has gas lights and calcimine painted in Joplin's style.
Scott Joplin's jazz
Scott Joplin is a legend within American music. Scott Joplin wrote many of the most iconic jazz rags, including "The Entertainer", which he published in 1903. Joplin's fluid, poetic genius was evident in The Entertainer. This style was quite difficult for piano players at the time. Joplin was also well-known for his rags. These were songs that were named after flowers. Some of his best rags are "The Chrysanthemum Rag" and the "Rose Leaf Rag."
